MEMOIRS OF A [FORMER] COUNTER-STRIKE ADDICT [June 23, 2007 11:27pm]
[ mood | nostalgic ]
[ music | Dashboard Confessional - As Lovers Go ]

So I'm eating banana split ice cream while bitching (to myself) right now about how much sugar I'm ingesting, but still taking in spoonfulls of it. Ugh. Soooo evil. I'm really my own worst enemy. I should learn not to over-criticize myself and just let it go. Ugh. This is just so depressing. I've nothing to write about. There's this one interesting topic actually, but it's quite "taboo" and I don't wanna go too personal so let's not even go there.

Anyway, Jay and I had nothing better to do the other day after he picked me up from the office and we went straight to his friend's computer/gaming shop in Pioneer and played CS with his friend Jun. Now, I haven't played CS in a looong time so my memory of what keys to type was a little bit rusty and I actually took a moment to familiarize myself with the thing again. So after about 5min of reading OPTIONS, I joined the two in their battle against the Bots in what seemed to be an upgraded version of de_dust (I was a bit disoriented at first and found myself asking Jay "Anong map to?"). Now, I was never good at Counter coz my reflex is really bad (in this game, at least) and I always forget to duck when shooting enemies, but I managed to kill more or less 50 bots that night, a far cry from the boys' 250-something each kills. Oh well, I tried. At least I got to practice shooting with a sniper again. I am very poor at remembering those guns names (I'm still a girly-girl after all ;-) ), so the second gun I used (which I thought was the sniper) was #3 in a category I cannot remember, basta it looks like a sniper but smaller (I'm pretty sure it's not SMGs though..). So there I was, trying to blow out as many bots' heads as I could, when Jay who was sitting next to me said, "That's not one-shot. 4-6 yun." Yikes. Kaya naman pala the bots don't go down after 2 or 3 shots pa. Sheesh. Stupid me.

That was kinda fun. Fondest memories of my college days include my "addiction" to Counter Strike (my friends even mentioned it in the yearbook), thanks to my partner-in-crime Pia (aka LOTLOT DE LEON in CS) whom I shared the same level of addiction with (like 8 or 9 out of 10). I remember we were so eager to learn how to play coz we thought it was sooo cool at that time (and what a great opportunity to meet cute boys in school, according to Pia haha! =D), so we went to this computer shop beside the Chowking outside the school  (a popular spot for student smokers) and asked the guy there if he could teach us how to play, so after much prodding, he did. And he was murdering us at first by stabbing us with a knife, to his delight (we were absolutely made fun of coz we we're shrieking and just being annoying hehe). After a while, we learned the basics so it was time to play against the REAL players (aka the boys at that computer shop above Chowking). So there we were, 2 girls against 12-15 boys, trying to fit in, (and be at par) with them, but they were really good and we didn't mind if we had the least kills. It was just so much fun. I remember playing every afternoon after class, and there was one time i didn't notice I played for 6 hours straight already. And yeah, I sucked at it still, but who cares. I remember the characters, like LA Lopez, or Caselyn Francisco. Pia started the That's Entertainment thing (hence, her nickname LOTLOT), and the guys just followed suit. And it was funny, coz whenever we would bump into them in the hallways of the school, they would be like, "Hey!", like everyone personally knew each other. And no, we never hooked up with any of those guys. It was all for the love of CS.

Good times.

CHOICES [April 13, 2007 1:58pm]
[ mood | artistic ]
[ music | The Rentals - Friends of P. ]

"Choose Life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a fucking big television, choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players and electrical tin openers. Choose good health, low cholesterol, and dental insurance. Choose fixed interest mortgage repayments. Choose a starter home. Choose your friends. Choose leisurewear and matching luggage. Choose a three-piece suite on hire purchase in a range of fucking fabrics. Choose DIY and wondering who the fuck you are on Sunday night. Choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing, spirit-crushing game shows, stuffing fucking junk food into your mouth. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pissing your last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, fucked up brats you spawned to replace yourselves. Choose your future. Choose life... But why would I want to do a thing like that? I chose not to choose life. I chose somethin' else. And the reasons? There are no reasons. Who needs reasons when you've got heroin?"

I'm kinda wondering, why is it that most of the coolest movies ever made involve drugs?

For me, at least. This is my latest obsession, dressing up online celebrity dolls at stardoll.com. Paperdoll heaven indeed. So damn fun being a stylist ala Rachel Zoe to A-listers like Nicole, The Olsens, to name a few. Maybe I should consider switching careers already? Whatever. Never been so addicted to something since the The Sims.

THE MUFFIN TOP GIRL [February 11, 2007 7:43pm]
[ mood | depressed ]
[ music | Samantha James - Rise ]

I was watching the LIfestyle Channel last night, and they were having a countdown of the 50 biggest fashion faux pas ever. If I'm not mistaken, number 25 was the "Muffin Top". Why the name? Well, it's when you wear super tight pants and the fats from your waist and back are squeezed out, like the top of a muffin. Cute, huh. Hmm... Guilty of this one. I dunno. I know I'm not fat, and I'm not rail thin either (and I will never be) but I still have that muffin top syndrome, especially when I wear low rise jeans. Whatever I do, it just won't go away. A year ago, I was 95 lbs. but I still had it. I asked a friend before what else to do since sit-ups didn;t work, she told me I will NEVER get rid of the fats unless I do cardio. Ugh. I'm like the laziest person ever when it comes to exercising. It's torture! Double ugh. I just might starve myself to death. What better way to die fabulously but of anorexia, right? Kidding. Anyhoo, guess what the number one was? None other than the VPL (Visible Panty Lines). Now, I dunno any girl who can claim that she never had it. Unless she never ever wears underpants.

CLAP YOUR HANDS SAY YEAH! TO THE BADLY DRAWN BOY LEAST LIKELY TO PANIC! AT THE DISCO [January 27, 2007 5:52pm]
[ mood | crazy ]
[ music | Up Dharma Down - Broken Mirrors and Screaming Turtles ]

LastFM is a goldmine of promising indie acts as well as bands with the weirdest, and funniest names that’ll crack you up. Or maybe I’m just really retarded and there’s nothing remotely funny about these names, but I find the following examples quite amusing, hilarious and very catchy:

M.Ward,
Blonde Redhead,
The Walkmen,
The Dismemberment Plan,
Badly Drawn Boy,
Q and Not U,
Ratatat,
Four Tet,
The Boy Least Likely To,
Do Make Say Think,
Death from Above 1979,
Ted Leo and The Pharmacists,
TV on the Radio,
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah!,
Something Corporate,
The New Pornographers,
Icons of Filth,
.fuckingcom,
Extinction of Mankind,
Mushroom Attack,
Camera Obscura,
Panic! At the Disco,
Psapp,
Yeah Yeah Yeahs,
Broken Social Scene,
Neutral Milk Hotel,
The Mountain Goats,
Suburban Kids with Biblical Names,

and my personal favorite, Whorehouse of Representatives. I mean, come on, you gotta give it to them. How clever is that?! Wanna be cool and edgy and give out that “I don’t give a f*ck!” vibe? How about putting .fuckingcom in your Friendster’s Fave Music section? Instant coolness right there. Or you wanna sound intelligent in a not so dorky-I-don’t-have-a-life way, just say you love listening to Camera Obscura, and you love, love, love Cinema Paradiso, or whatever foreign language movie you can think of (preferably with subtitles). You seem interesting, intelligent, and deep all of a sudden. The least mainstream, the better. Hmm… No, I’m not on drugs (but I might as well be =P). My mind’s just a little all over the place right now.

MISS HALFWAY [January 26, 2007 1:47pm]
[ mood | pensive ]
[ music | Anya Marina ]

You oughta hear the mirror in my house
You oughta fear her pretty, pretty mouth
Says I’m imperfect in every way:
“Miss Almost, Miss Maybe, Miss Halfway”

I’m gonna burn, I’m gonna shine and multiply
I’m gonna fill up the great divide
You’ll never break me with all the things you say
“Miss Almost, Miss Maybe, Miss Halfway”

WISH I... [January 04, 2007 6:04pm]
[ mood | high ]
[ music | Damien Rice - Cannonball ]

In lieu of a new year’s resolution, here are my wishes for 2007 (in no particular order):
1. More time to go on vacations.
2. A better year, career-wise.
3. For Booey to be admitted in a good school.
4. A better (and more meaningful) relationship with my family, friends and the people I work with.
5. A motivation (and enough willpower!) to lose the 10 lbs. I gained last year (Without exercising and starving myself to death).
6. Less Brangelina and TomKat. Enough already.
7. Less Gretchen Barretto, her designer things, and her microwave. We get it, ok.
8. Less Britney Spears. Particularly Britney without her panties on. Please.
9. Less (or better yet, none of) Paris Hilton aka Britney’s new BFF.
10. Less traffic.
11. Less malls (Please stop sprouting everywhere!).
12. Less politics (In the government and at the workplace. Who doesn’t want a better Philippines?).
13. More jobs for the Filipinos (I’m no selfish prick, you know).
14. More of Nicole Richie (Her weight, not her works).
15. More fashion-conscious and fashion-forward Pinoys (It’s about time, with fashion so much more accessible now than say, ten years ago).
16. More independent fashion labels that sell good stuff without the sky-high price tag.
17. More fabulous trends to get inspired with.
18. More of  Phoebe Philo, Marc Jacobs, Marni, Stella McCartney, Nicolas Ghesquiere and their amazing fashion.
19. Muchos dineros! Hehe!
20. An action sampler camera.
21. A free trip to Brazil. Or Fiji. (In my dreams)
22. An oversized men’s watch for myself.
23. More flat shoes (round-toe, peep-toe or pointed) to keep me comfy throughout the day.
24. A time to get a whole body massage, and a haircut. Really soon. (My hair is in desperate need of pampering)
25. For my next Christmas list to get shorter (It just keeps getting longer and longer as years go by. Wouldn’t it be nice if the opposite happens, for a change? Hehe)
26. A chance to see my roomies, high school & college pals, and my family back in Nueva (Who I really miss!) more often.
27. More free time to do digital art (Which I’m quite frustrated about. So many ideas in so little time).
28. And of course, I would prefer not going through quarter-life crisis! =P

PUNK'D [December 31, 2006 3:15pm]
[ mood | mischievous ]

The annual Christmas party at Good Earth Roasts Rockwell last December 20th. And the theme this year was..... yep, PUNK'S NOT DEAD!!! Had so much fun! I thought what I wore was pretty hardcore (for me, at least) but everyone really dressed up for it. So I kinda ended up looking a wee bit normal compared to everybody haha! Wait til next year! Wanna say thanks to my sis-in-law for my smoky eyes, and my friends Cherry and Irene for "sponsoring" all my accessories that night. You guys are total angels *Big, sloppy kiss here*. I should've worn Irene's tutu skirt and channelled the inner punk ballerina in me, but unfortunately I'm not a size 0. I could only wish.
Sorry friends, I keep on stealing your pictures haha! I won't have to when I get a new camera zooooooon!

SUCH GREAT HEIGHTS [December 14, 2006 3:18pm]
[ mood | enthralled ]
[ music | The Postal Service ]

'Currently loving this. Please click the box to see the video. And maybe you'd wanna sing along. Lyrics below.

I am thinking it's a sign that the freckles
In our eyes are mirror images and when
We kiss they're perfectly aligned
And I have to speculate that God himself
Did make us into corresponding shapes like
Puzzle pieces from the clay
True, it may seem like a stretch, but
Its thoughts like this that catch my troubled
Head when you're away when I am missing you to death
When you are out there on the road for
Several weeks of shows and when you scan
The radio, I hope this song will guide you home

They will see us waving from such great
Heights, 'come down now,' they'll say
But everything looks perfect from far away,
'come down now,' but we'll stay...

I tried my best to leave this all on your
Machine but the persistent beat it sounded
Thin upon listening
That frankly will not fly. you will hear
The shrillest highs and lowest lows with
The windows down when this is guiding you home

NOT ANOTHER BALLPEN HOLDER! [December 13, 2006 4:52pm]
[ mood | silly ]
[ music | Phoenix - Summer Days ]

What's not to like about the Christmas season? The time of of the year when you finally have an excuse to pig out (Yey!) and then feel guilty right after chowing down the lechon, crispy pata, ham, and heaven knows what else(Ugh!), prompting you to make a New Year's resolution not to eat LIKE THAT ever again, which is bullshit since resolutions are just meant to be, well, resolutions. The time of the year when people suddenly have money to spend on gifts and Noche Buena. Party time! The streets are well-lit (lower chance of getting mugged / raped, but nothing can stop criminals, especially snatchers, who by the way, double in number during this time. They must've been hiding and training hard the whole year). The weather's a bit colder at night, enough for you to bring out your cardigans and light-weight jackets coz coats and knee-high boots would obviously be too much, (for the weather and for some Pinoys to take) so forget it. People are more cheerful (which can sometimes be annoying as well), optimistic and charitable ("give love on Xmas day". Uhh, no thanks. Gimme your money instead! =P)
Aside from malls and tiangges getting overcrowded, traffic getting worse, spending all your 13th month pay in one go for Xmas gifts, gaining another 5 pounds, what's to hate about the Holidays?
That was the topic of my officemates and I the other day while on break. How we've been traumatized by the WORST CHRISTMAS GIFTS ever. I mean, how can you not if you receive one of these notorious items:

1. Photo Albums
2. Coffee Mugs (So cliche. Unless you're into pottery and you can make one yourself, which is really sweet. Effort is always appreciated!)
3. Picture Frames (See number 1)
4. Pillows (Big, fluffy ones are okay though for me. What I don't get is the really small ones. I'm not an infant!)
5. Give-away T-shirts (Come on!)
6. Used perfume (The kind that you can get in palengkes and makes you smell like the giver's lola)
7. Face towels ("Bimpo". Worse if you get the infamous Good Morning towels)
8. Ballpen/Pencil Holder (The wooden type, some with the bahay-kubo on the center and some etchings. The kind that reminds you of souverirs from Baguio)
9. Stuffed toys (It's cute to have a room full of little bunnies, and bears...When you're 14!)
10. Lola panties (Curse of lifetime celibacy)
11. Plastic flowers in a transparent box (Also popular on Valentine's Day)
12. Make-up pouches (Especially if they're not cute)
13. A shirt that's either too small or too big for you
14. Shoes that you don't really like  (i.e. ankle boots with TASSELS or chunky, pokish shoes in avocado-green)

I'm pretty sure there's a lot more, I just can't remember. I just hope that nobody gets any of these for Christmas coz that would really suck big time.
Nothing personal, ok? *wink wink*

LATE [December 11, 2006 12:42pm]
[ mood | pissed off ]
[ music | Not in the mood ]

The traffic this morning was HORRIBLE! I left the house at 8:30 am (like I usually do) and reached the office at almost 11:30! Un-f*ckin-believable! It usually takes me 15 (to 30, tops.) minutes to the office, but this morning was pretty damn special coz of a stupid collision of two 10 or 18-wheeler trucks (who cares) along C5 near The Fort. What a way to start the week.

GIRL WITH THE GOLD EARRINGS [December 06, 2006 11:59am]
[ mood | thankful ]
[ music | Hooverphonic - Everytime We Live Together We ]

I complimented somebody's earrings last night at a birthday party and she gave them to me! She was like, "You can have them. I have quite a lot of stuff" or something, and I was, are you serious?! And I just met her!But she's really sweet. Her name's Niña. She said her sister designs accesories and just sends her so much stuff that she doesn't know what to do with some of them anymore. I was really surprised (and happy of course) coz I wasn't expecting she'd actually give them to me. And they are fabulous. Chunky, gold, shaped like teardrops only irregular on the edges. Coolness.

DIZZY UP THE GIRL [December 05, 2006 12:01pm]
[ mood | nauseated ]
[ music | The Boy Least Likely To - Be Gentle With Me ]

The Postal Service rocks.
The indietronic band, not the one that delivers mails.
Indietronic - Didn't know there was such a thing.
I know indie and electronica, but indietronica?
Kewl.
I guess bands nowadays refuse to be compared to similar artists, so they tend to create their own genre.
Agree? No? Whatever.
Time is running out.
I mean Xmas is just around the corner
And I haven't done any shopping yet.
Thinking of a gift for me?
A 10 mega-pixel touchscreen cam will do.
Or take me out shopping.
Fat chance.
Pretty scared of this coming Xmas party with friends.
No friggin idea what to wear.
The theme?
Punk's Not Dead. Pretty interesting, right?
Well, goodluck to me.
Friends say I should wear a tutu over leggings.
And chains, chains, chains galore.
Let's see. I still have 2 weeks.
I'm not feeling so super today.
Feel like throwing up.
Like, right now.

Thanks for the bday greetings.
Mwah.

I'm A Star! [November 30, 2006 1:32pm]
[ mood | blah ]
[ music | Placebo - This Picture ]

I got this from Mike's Blog

You are The Star

Hope, expectation, Bright promises.

The Star is one of the great cards of faith, dreams realised

The Star is a card that looks to the future. It does not predict any immediate or powerful change, but it does predict hope and healing. This card suggests clarity of vision, spiritual insight. And, most importantly, that unexpected help will be coming, with water to quench your thirst, with a guiding light to the future. They might say you're a dreamer, but you're not the only one.

What Tarot Card are You?
Take the Test to Find Out.

That's it? Just promises? That sucks.
